2020 has been a pivotal year in the lives of nearly every individual on this planet and it is nearing a close. So what's next for you?
With all of the changes that we have been forced to undergo lately, it's hard to believe that we actually DO have choices in what the future holds for us!
Keeping that in mind, I would love to play a game...
Imagine you are Aladin and you have a magic Genie at your disposal to grant you three wishes, here's the caveat, you have 1 min to decide what you will ask for! and go.......
Hey! No cheating with unlimited wishes...
If you are anything like I was when I was first presented with this question, you may feel a little overwhelmed with all of the choices and maybe you are drawing a blank. Or you may have some answers like an indoor swimming pool, a private island, or the newest iPhone, etc, etc, etc.
However, none of those things will help you to have a long-term life of fulfillment (although 2021 would be a fun year), they're more about instant gratification.
So let's pose the question in a different way; what do you want from life?
Some common answers are more fulfillment, a higher paying job, to be healthier. Great answers except, they are not specific enough.
Believe it or not, life works like the Genie, it will give you EXACTLY what you ask for, not necessarily what you want. Don't believe me? I have proof!
Just over 4 years ago I had the busiest year of my career, 4 months straight with no days off. I accomplished many long-terms goals in that time, including working main stage at the biggest hair show in Canada. After that event I was EXHAUSTED 😴 💤 😩!!!! Knowing that I had a week off is what kept me going and I was excited and relieved to finally rest, but this was short lived.
The day that I got back home, and my first official day off, I got a phone call from my leader that I was needed to do a class at a new salon. "No problem" I said only to find out that the class needed to happen that weekend 😳😩 and I had already told the owner that I would do it (before I knew the date was non-negotiable)
I broke down on the phone and, through sobs, tears and a streaming nose, I yelled "I need a break!!!"...
Well, the universe heard me and I got exactly that!
The next day I accidentally shut the car door on my hand and broke it in two places eventually needing surgery and I was off of work for 10 weeks! The longest "holiday" of my life.
Breaking ones hand is never good but it's a hairstylists worst nightmare 😳!
It wasn't all bad, I learned many lessons from this; if you're going to break your hand do it in the summer 😉(it was the best summer we had in years 🥳), I have the best clients ever, and two hands are useful when in the washroom 😅 (so are elastic waisted pants).. The biggest learning was, BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR!!!!
Before I lose you here, it wasn't on purpose. I didn't want or wish to break my hand and I don't believe I was being punished or that I deserved it. I simply wasn't specific about what I wanted, I asked for a break with such intensity and feeling, that the universe gave me exactly what I "asked" for so I got a break in every sense of the word.
Some people refer to this as the Law of Attraction, whatever you think about (talk about and focus on) you bring about. Tony Robbin's says it this way; "Where focus goes, energy flows".
How I've come to understand it is that our brains don't know what's right or wrong, good or bad, they align our actions with what we think about. It's especially powerful when we feel big emotions from that thought.
Another example of this could be when you spill your coffee all over yourself and your vehicle on your way into work. Most people see this as the start to a bad day and, because it's what you're expecting, that's exactly what happens...you, unintentionally, asked for it. It's not that the day is any different from any other, you've just aligned yourself with finding any and all evidence to prove yourself right, that it's a terrible day.
Our brains always align themselves with what we think about, especially if we add energy to those thoughts with emotion. Period.
This is GREAT news! Now that we know this, we can use it to our advantage. Back to the Genie analogy....
In order to receive the life you desire (not the default version from your unfocused imaginings of your future)
1) you just need to be clear about what you want and
2) get as specific as possible.
So, instead of asking to be healthier, you could decide that, within 4 months, you will lose 10% of your body fat and gain lean muscle by working out five days a week for 45 min (2 days cardio ⛹️♀️, 3 days weight training 🏋️♀️) and eating vegan 5 days a week.
The more detailed, the clearer and more likely it is to happen.
Want to do next level? WRITE IT DOWN 📝, studies show that you are 42% more likely to achieve a goal if you write it down 🤯
It helps you create a vision of how you want to be in the future. Writing helps you to visually see your "wish". When we have a specific vision, it creates change in how we act as we now have clarity and direction and we will subconsciously make choices that will lead us to our desired outcome.
Although it's never guaranteed that you will reach your goal in the time that you want, or ever (there are way more variables that we can chat about on another day), you will definitely get much closer than if you leave it to chance.
Whether you believe in the Law of Attraction or not, evidence shows that what we think about makes us look for more of the same which influences our decisions at a subconscious level. We can either be in charge of it 💪or we can allow our brain to go rogue and let the pieces fall where they may 😳
Word of caution 🚧: our brains have thinking patterns and if this is the first time that you are trying to alter your thoughts, your brain is going to revolt because when you change your thinking, it means that it has to work harder and it REALLY likes the easy route which is the path of the your most common thoughts. Therefore, patience, persistence and self-love are a must 💕.
Now that you know how the "genie" works best, what do you want for 2021?
Feel free to add a comment that shares your goal for a big boost in your odds of achieving it 🙌
With love,
Stephanie
